Homework Graded EVERY MONDAY
Starting Friday, August 22nd, students were assigned homework in class. Students went to the school library that day to ensure they had a choice novel to read for their homework; although, students are welcome to read books that they have at home as well. The homework is to read a minimum of 90 minutes a week, complete a 5-7 sentence summary on the provided sheet (which can be downloaded below), and get a parent/guardian signature acknowledging that the child actually read the required minimum minutes.
A grade for reading logs will be given out weekly. Total grade is out of 10 points: 5 points for the summary, 5 points for the parent signature acknowledging the time read. With these two requirements, students are forewarned that it is their responsibility to get the signature. If they know parents are not going to be home Sunday night, then they should get the signature before hand. Regardless, students should always receive a minimum of 5/10 if they complete the reading and summary (they don't get parent signature).
The ultimate goal is for students to increase their skills in literacy. Encouraging your child to spend more than 90 minutes reading is recommended.
Students received the document below on 8/22, but if the sheet is lost, you are able to print off new copies here (as well as for the year, just adjust the dates).
Please contact me with any questions/concerns.
